Have you ever run into a sharp edge or burned yourself on an oven tray? Sometimes accidents can happen, and so can your child when their exploration is in full swing. With smart planning and simple measures, you can prevent many accidents. Follow our checklist and childproof your home – room by room.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before going into depth, there are some general things to consider. Make sure the floor is always clean of small items, put up edge protectors for sharp corners, and provide doors with anti-crush protection and electrical sockets with contact protection. Thereafter you are already well on your way to a childproof home. Now on, all the way from the kitchen to the bedroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kitchen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Use fireplace guards and a log splitter on the stove.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Always keep the handles of pots and pans facing inwards when cooking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Use a safety guard and a latch on the oven door.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Provide drawers and cabinet doors with safety latches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Keep kitchen appliance cords, dishwasher detergents and other chemicals out of the reach of children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Avoid tablecloths on the table.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Bathroom<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Equip showers and baths with anti-slip devices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Remove the plug from the tub when not in use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Make sure the mixer has a thermostat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Keep chemicals out of the reach of children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Lock up medicines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Living room & bedroom<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Anchor cabinets, shelves, televisions, and other furnishings that could tip over.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Remove heavy, sharp and fragile objects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Avoid poisonous plants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Install a gate with a latch to the stairs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Attach cords lying along the floor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Untie blind cords and ensure that curtain devices are securely fastened.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Use latches for balcony and patio doors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
